Location: New York, USA
Date: August 30, 2022
Description
Heeding the call of the South Asian Policy Initiative, numerous human rights organizations convened a demonstration outside the United Nations building in New York on August 30, marking the International Day for the Prevention of Enforced Disappearances. This Wednesday afternoon event witnessed the participation of families of those who have disappeared at the hands of the state forces of Bangladesh, along with individuals from various professional backgrounds within the Bangladeshi community. The speakers at the event vociferously protested the enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings perpetuated by state forces under the rule of Sheikh Hasina, stressing that the movement should endure until such time as this administration is replaced by a genuinely democratic government.
The rally was punctuated by resonant slogans, including “Hear the cry of the childless mother: let fascism perish.”
